2010 Chevy Volt

Now that’s Electric:Introducing the Chevy Volt.Unless you are an ostrich in the Detroit Zoo, with your head stuck in the sand, you have heard about the dire predictions of economic gloom for the General Motors Corp. To believe the news is to believe that the giant of American automobile makers will drop over the cliff at any moment. But, in fact, assuming that GM can weather the storm of the current economic crunch, the company is well-positioned to perform swimmingly, heading into the second decade of the twenty-first century. Why? It is all thanks to the Chevrolet Volt.
The Volt was the star of the 2008 Detroit auto show—GM’s effort to leap-frog Toyota in the electrical car market. Touted by GM as an “Extended-Range Electric Vehicle,” the flashy new car has a “propulsion system [that] is so revolutionary, it’s unlike any other vehicle or electric car that’s ever been introduced.” And GM stands by its promise to have the car ready to purchase by 2010, just in time to help America and the world out of the economic crisis and into a cleaner, greener future—at least that’s what the Detroit auto maker’s executives hope.

Chevrolet’s 2010 Impala Will be FWD. Maybe.

Automotive News reports that GM still hasn't decided whether their next gen Chevrolet Impala will channel its motive power through the front or rear wheels. While the Impala's replacement is currently slated for the same rear wheel-drive platform used by the… wait for it… please wait for it… it really is coming soon we swear… Chevrolet Camaro, the automaker is now contemplating placing the new Impala on the company's box fresh, front wheel-drive "global mid-sized vehicle architecture." That's the platform that will underpin virtually everything GM makes, from the European Vectra to the replacement for the just-out Chevrolet Malibu. Aye, there's the rub. The new 'Bu is nearasdammit the same size as the current Impala. If both cars ride on the same global platform, there can only be a 20" difference between them. Badge engineering across brands is one thing; trying to differentiate mechanically identical cars within one brand is another. Indeed, there are already worries that the new Malibu will cannibalize sales from the current Impala. So who gets the final call and when will they make it? Hipster Car Czar Maximum Bob Lutz says it's all down to the feds. ""The large rwd (Chevrolet) sedan is always on the bubble, depending on what the government does," Lutz says. "A lot of the product lineups are up in the air right now and very flexible." Now there's a product plan you can believe in.

GM Cuts Price on 2010 Chevy Equinox

The 2010 Chevrolet Equinox will carry a base price of $23,185, including its delivery fee, when the crossover goes on sale in June.
The restyled, re-engineered Equinox will cost $1,800 less than the previous generation, Ed Peper, vice president of Chevrolet, said today in a statement.
General Motors has said it hopes the Equinox will get 30 mpg highway, up from 24 mpg on the base model of the 2009 version. The Equinox's first four-cylinder engine and the addition of a six-speed automatic transmission provide the main boost in fuel economy. Other contributors include low-rolling-resistance tires, electric power steering and improved aerodynamics.
Chevrolet sold 13,226 Equinoxes through March, down 42.5 percent from this time last year. But that percentage decline is better than the brand's 48.5 percent plunge through March, as the U.S. light-vehicle sales rate lingers at quarter-century lows.
Last year Chevrolet sold 67,447 Equinoxes, down from 89,552 in 2007 and 113,888 in 2006. The Equinox was Chevy's fifth-best-selling light truck last year.

2010 Chevrolet Camaro final specs revealed

The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro has finally been revealed in US showroom format - this is the car as it will be available (in the States) from next year.

Built on GM’s new global rear-wheel-drive passenger car platform, the original design concept was conceived in the United States, with engineering shared by teams both in Australia and the US, teams who worked hard to ensure the Camaro’s proud lineage was maintained in this modern form.
Validation was conducted on roads throughout the world while assembly takes place in GM’s Oshawa Plant in Ontario, Canada.

With a design that is very close to the original concept, the 2010 Camaro features a long bonnet and short boot lid (with 320-litre cargo capacity) plus a 67-degree rake to the windscreen and large wheel arches, all of which aim to add to the Camaro’s sporting appeal.

The Camaro comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, though can be optioned with 19 or 20-inch wheels. All models also feature the classic “V” design motif in the nose, along with a power dome in the aluminum bonnet. On SS models, a simulated air intake is located in the upper front fascia and the lower air intake is larger. Gills located in the front of the rear quarter panel also are familiar Camaro styling cues.
On the top, designers took a cue from Corvette and sculpted twin cockpits across the roof, giving the vehicle a distinctive Chevrolet presence. From the outside, the B-pillar is invisible to the eye, lending the true appearance of a hardtop coupe.
Ten exterior colours are available and include Black, Victory Red, Rally Yellow and Silver Ice Metallic. Red Jewel Tintcoat is also available as an option. The colour palette also includes Cyber Grey Metallic, Aqua Blue Metallic, Inferno Orange Metallic, White and Imperial Blue Metallic.
An RS appearance package is available on LT and SS. It includes HID headlamps with integrated halo rings, a rear spoiler on LT, specific tail lamps and 20-inch wheels with a Midnight Silver finish.
Inside the four-passenger cabin, a well-executed balance of retro-heritage feel and modern design is applied to all details including most especially the cluster, switches, dials and lighting.

Deep, recessed gauges, located in square housings outlined in chrome, give a nod to the classic Camaro interior. The instrument panel gauges include both speedometer and tacho with a driver information centre located between the large gauges – its readouts and features are controlled via a stalk on the steering column. An optional, console-mounted gauge package includes oil pressure, oil temperature, volts and transmission fluid temperature. The gauge package is included on 2LT and 2SS models.
Cloth upholstery is standard and leather-appointed seats are included on 2LT and 2SS models. Heated, leather-trimmed seats with driver six-way power adjustment are optional. Safety technologies include dual front, side and curtain airbags.
All models include a three-spoke steering wheel with manual tilt/telescope adjustment. Cruise control and rear defog also are standard, while a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob; redundant steering wheel controls; Bluetooth and USB port are part of the available Driver Convenience and Connectivity package. Also included in the package is remote start on automatic transmission-equipped vehicles, as well as a personal device interface module for iPods.
Soon after production begins, customers will also be able to order a short-throw Hurst shifter that provides quick, concise shifting.

2010 Chevrolet Equinox

Overview
The Chevy Equinox was first launched for 2005 as a low-priced compact five-passenger crossover SUV, with a useful MultiFlex rear seat that slides forward and back to optimize passenger space or cargo room. Clumsy road manners and some cut-rate interior materials prevented it from being a hit.
Chevrolet is redesigning the Equinox for 2010. The new model has an interior inspired by the successful Chevrolet Malibu. It shares its architecture, or basic structure, with the Saturn Vue, itself based on GM's German Opel Antara.
The 2010 Equinox has revised styling and two new powertrains, also. The new Equinox is about the same size as the outgoing model, but it has a more angular look and a sleeker profile. Moving the base of the windshield forward three inches makes it more sharply sloped, yielding a sportier look. Wheel sizes will include 17s, 18s, and 19s.
To address the interior, Chevrolet adds a dual-cockpit interior design inspired by the Chevrolet Malibu. However, where the Malibu uses many higher-quality soft-touch materials, the Vue will continue with many hard plastics. More standard and optional features will be available, though. OnStar assistance, XM satellite radio and blue-hued ambient lighting will be standard. Options will include Bluetooth connectivity, USB audio input jack, hard-drive radio, rear-seat DVD entertainment with two headrest-mounted screens. Chevrolet will also offer a class-exclusive power rear liftgate, a rearview camera that displays in the available navigation screen or rearview mirror, and a Smart remote starting system that will also activate the climate system and the optional heated seats depending on the outside temperature.
The MultiFlex rear seat will return. With eight inches of travel, the seat can be set all the way back to make rear passengers more comfortable, or fully forward for 31.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second-row seats. The 2010 Equinox's seats will also recline and fold down to open up 63.8 cubic feet of cargo space.
The 2010 Equinox will replace the previous model's 185-horsepower V6 with a revised version of GM's Ecotec four-cylinder as its base engine. The current Ecotec makes 164 horsepower and 160 pound-feet of torque in the 2009 Vue, but in the 2010 Equinox it will add direct injection technology, boosting horsepower to 182 and torque to 174 pound-feet. GM estimates fuel economy numbers of 21/30 mpg (city/hwy) with front-wheel drive and 20/27 with all-wheel drive, a 25-percent highway improvement over the outgoing 3.4-liter V6. GM expects two-thirds of customers to choose this engine, and it will be offered with any trim level.
Also available will be a new engine to the GM stable, a 3.0-liter, direct-injected V6. The new engine is a derivative of the 3.6-liter V6 that it replaces in the Equinox lineup. This engine will produce 255 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque, while delivering 18/25 mpg with front-wheel drive and 17/24 mpg with all-wheel drive. Both engines will be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and the 3.0-liter V6 will also come with a manual shiftgate. There is no word yet if the Equinox will be offered with either of the Vue's two hybrid powertrains.
Chevrolet has announced that LS, LT and LTZ models will return, but has yet to reveal pricing. We expect the starting price to stay in line with the current model, which starts at about $24,000, but fully equipped models may range higher, possibly up to $37,000, due to the new options.
